Nokia enters into netbook segment; launches Booklet 3G

August 24, 2009

After ruling the mobile markets for more than 25 years, Nokia is testing another market, the netbook. The Finland-based company has launched a netbook called Booklet 3G, based on Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

"A growing number of people want the computing power of a personal computer (PC) with the full benefits of mobility," said Kai Oistamo, Nokia's executive vice president for devices. "We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us. Nokia has a long and rich heritage in mobility and with the outstanding battery life, premium design and all day, always on connectivity, we will create something quite compelling. In doing so we will make the personal computer more social, more helpful and more personal," Oistamo added.

Booklet 3G is powered by Intel’s Atom and has a battery life of about 12 hours. It delivers a rich experience of a full-function PC inside an ultra-portable aluminum chassis, and weighs 1.25kgs, measures slightly more than two centimeters thin, claims the statement from Nokia.

With a broad range of connectivity options - including 3G/ HSPA and Wi-Fi – Booklet 3G gives consumers high speed access to the Internet, including Nokia's broad suite of Ovi services. The mini-laptop also comes with an HDMI port for HD video out, a front facing camera for video calling, integrated Bluetooth and an easily accessible SD card reader.

There is no word on its India launch or the pricing yet, but it would soon reach the country with a price tag between Rs25,000 to Rs30,000.
