Finance Ministry Asks States to Provide Safety, Vaccination to Bank Employees on Priority

Taking cognizance of recent incidents where bank employees were manhandled by police, the union finance ministry has asked chief secretaries of all states and union territories (UTs) to provide adequate safety to bank employees and consider special dispensation for vaccination for them on priority basis.
In a letter dated 14 May 2021, Debashish Panda, secretary in the department of financial services says, "...I request your personal attention in kindly instructing all district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) and other local authorities to cooperate with bank and financial services employees, provide adequate safety and security to them and not hinder or impede their functioning or movement. I once again request you to kindly consider putting in place a special dispensation for vaccination of bank employees on priority."
According to a Twitter post, one pregnant banker from Punjab National Bank as returning home from bank when Hanumangarh Police in Rajasthan stopped her car and abused her. The police also seized her car and took her into custody. 
In other incident, the DM of Udhamsingh Nagar in Uttrakhand warned bankers first information report (FIR) and strict action if they not adhere to COVID guidelines. 
Ealier this week, the assistant district collector of Baramulla district in Kashir thrashed a bank manager of State Bank of India (SBI) for violating lockdown even though the manager was wearing his ID card and had pass for essential services.
The letter sent by the finance ministry will help bankers and employees of financial services to get reprieve from the police brutality and preference in vaccination.
