Indian Bank and United India Insurance have launched a web portal offering online entry and renewal of health insurance policies. Indian Bank has been offering its account-holders Arogya Raksha group mediclaim from United, since 2006. Mediclaim policies offered by some public sector banks for its customers are among the most affordable. Moneylife had published a Cover Story “Cheapest Mediclaim” (28 July 2011) giving details of the various mediclaim products offered by different banks. United’s mediclaim, offered through banks like Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank, carries low premium; but the mediclaim offered through Indian Bank is extremely expensive for senior citizens. The annual premium for a Rs5-lakh family floater for two adults, two children and senior citizen parents will be approximately Rs12,000 for United’s mediclaim through Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank, while it will be double the amount, at Rs24,000, for United’s mediclaim through Indian Bank.
