For all you travel-bugs seeking a quick getaway to beat the heat, look no further than Ooty, the most popular hill resort in Tamil Nadu. Ooty, short-form for Ootacamund or Udhagamandalam, located 2,240 metres above sea level in the Nilgiri Mountains, is called the Queen of Hills. It used to be a favourite summer and weekend getaway for the British during colonial days and continues to draw swarms of tourists even now. Ooty’s landscape is marked by rolling hills and plateaus covered with dense vegetation, verdant tea gardens and tall pine, teak and eucalyptus trees.
