In the Moneylife Foundation event today the “people’s doctor” left the knowledgeable audience consisting several eminent doctors enthralled with his simple and yet effective ways to create wellness and happiness

“People think that popping a pill gives them instant relief. But one has to remember that behind every ill there is a pill,” said Professor illustrious doctor and professor Dr BM Hegde. He was speaking at Moneylife Foundation’s first seminar on wellness and healthcare in Mumbai.
Dr Hegde, a Padma Bhushan, is known for his unconventional views and oratory skills and has written several books including What Doctors Don’t Get To Study in Medical School.
Addressing the participants, consisting of many doctors and senior citizens, Dr Hegde explained in details about his experience in treating patients using alternative medicine and how people are misguided about various treatments and medicines, because our minds have been schooled to think that way.
“Wellness which happens from within. Medical insurance is another area where people continue to be looted. Aim for using minimum medicine and pills,” he advised.
Prof Dr Hegde spoke about the importance alternative medicines like Ayurveda and Homeopathy. He said, “There are all kinds of tactics are used to suppress Homeopathy as a form of treatment, But it is one of the best medicines. It is much more scientific than modern medicine.” According to him, modern medicine claims to be based on science but research has found that the majority of health problems stem from the mind while modern medicines can offer only a temporary relief. “If one has a happy mind, his body is largely free from diseases.”
Explaining the importance of Ayruveda, Prof Dr Hedge explained that how millions of dollars and many years were spent to find the cause of common cold. At the same time Ayurveda, for instance, lists food that has to be consumed during various seasons like eating more spices during winter. “In fact, people in Britain were told to eat curry in Indian restaurants as a cure for common cold after a 10 billion pound research into treatment of common cold was found to lead to no conclusions,” he said.
He emphasised that one need to follow a diet consisting of mainly of natural food. “For a long time people have been told that coconut oil is bad. But in reality, it is one of the best remedy for so many diseases. Coconut tree is names as Kalpvruksha. All the parts of the tree are useable and bio degradable.”
Apart from narrating many witty stories and analogies, Prof Dr Hegde referred to many outstanding books from top minds which have busted the myths of modern medicines and diseases. He advised that with the aim of being healthy till death, one has to eat natural food, eat in moderation and sleep well and try to be a happy person.
